Lets get the fun back into fashion next season!!!

I really liked the direction that Vogue UK went this month (well, for January!)

Chanel SS12

They pointed out that there has been a massive change in fashion for next season and designers are really feeling an urge to put a bit of silliness and fun back into their work. I think they could be right on the money here.....

.......It started innocently enough with a bit of oversized sequins on the runway for AW Prada, before they descended into full blown car prints and 50s jolliness for SS, it cropped up at Chanel where the theme was Ariel the Little Mermaid inspired and under the sea fantastic and it was certainly present in the madness that was Meadham Krichhoff!

...Oh and if you think that was mad, then take a look at Diane Von Furstenberg's Pre Spring collection - it's bursting with 60s style shift dresses in acid greens, silvers and oranges...

I think in these recessionary times where we hear so much about doom, gloom, budgets, belt tightening and other such horrible measures - it's about time fashion does what it does best - lift our spirits and cheer us all up a bit!

On the high street this is evident in the brightly colored spring cut off jeans at the Kooples, the
insanely printed skinny trousers at Primark and in the bright colored collections of Versace for H&M (round two) and Mary Katrantzou for Topshop, who have all put print and color to the front of affordable fashion this season - bar Katrantzou....

I also think as Irish and British women, we have a tendency to stick to darker colors, greys and more street friendly apparel but surely thats impossible with such wonderful arrays of pinks, blues and prints on offer?

Vogue UK certainly seem to think so as they open next month with an ode to pink, they recommend it as THE color for next season before launching a two page spread on the undersea silliness of designers. Even Alexandera Shulman titles her editor's page with 'The Art of Escapism' and talks of fashion being a great route for leaving the miserable past behind us and looking forward to hope. Hope of a new country with less problems, hope for a new life with less grey both in fashion and in general and hope of having something to strive for and yearn for.

So time will tell how we will change along with the trends and if we can really accept the latest trends to our recessionary wardrobes, but I'm all for it. I'll be stocking up on acid pinks, colorful clashing prints and tangerine - since it's meant to be the color of 2012!

Who is with me!!!
