Imprisoned South African athlete, Oscar Pistorius is set to be released on August 21, 2015.
The blade runner has been in jail for ten mouths after he was found guilty of culpable homicide in the shooting at his model girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp through a locked toilet door on Valentine’s Day in 2013.
Even though he was sentenced to five years in prison, it came with a ‘correctional supervision’ clause which makes him eligible to be let free after serving one-sixth of his prison term.
Pistorius’ release comes with a condition though; he would be under virtual house arrest. He is expected to live in Pretoria’s upmarket Waterkloof suburb with his uncle, Arnold.
Oscar will only be allowed to go to work or run occasional errands at first. The 28-year-old amputee will have to stay away alcohol, drugs and guns during this period too. Anger management classes may also be prescribed to him.
The condition of the sprinter’s release allows him to travel or compete but he may never be seen in a major competition till 2020. This is because the International Paralympic Committee has said that he will be banned from the Rio Games and will only be eligible to compete when he has entirely served his five-year sentence.
